What does Trump unconsciously convey through body language?

I was always attracted to Donald Trump! To his personality! Every time I look at him, at what he says and what he does, I draw one conclusion: "This is what a rebellious child looks like in the body of a stubborn adult!". Sometimes I feel like stroking his head and saying: “Never mind, little one! We will make this world Your favourite toy!”. Sometimes I feel like ... (sorry but I can't write what's on my mind right now!). What is certain is that I don’t have the same feeling twice if I see and hear him. So he has one great quality: he doesn't bore me!

Now, when the world's problem also affected him, seeing him in the hospital footage, I'm very, very ashamed! Of myself! Because as a specialist I don’t have the right to make judgments against a person only in terms of the role he/she plays. Like it or not, Trump's role of president, which seems weak to very weak to me and irritates me, is only part of him. Admittedly, the most vocal, the most visible and the most demanding for the viewer.

Donald Trump as a sick man has caused a storm in my mind. My judgment, malicious regarding him, quickly issued: “It is very good that he has got sick! Let the emperor see what it's like in the real world! To understand that beyond statistics, those who get sick, suffer, die are people, more than voters, pawns in his game. If a person dies, the world in which he/she lived, the world of those who loved him/her collapses. Forever! A person doesn’t matter in statistics. In real life, a person can be EVERYTHING!”.

My human, deeply emotional side emends the judgment and counterbalances with a simple remark: "Yet, he is also a person!". Yes, he is a person! Just a simple man for me, for you, for most people on the planet. On the day when he will no longer be president, on the day when this world will no longer want him and will reject him, he will only be a name and a few fast-paced images for us. Trump as a Man is EVERYTHING for his family, for those who love him, who believe in him.

Today I chose to let the emotion triumph. I saw a human Trump in the hospital footage. But let's see what Trump's unconscious conveys through body language. I have in front of me the 4-minute footage in which Trump is limited in his movements but the few gestures he makes are extremely telling. Precisely because they are few and constant, they transmit authentic and lasting messages.

Let's start with the moment he thanks the medical team. It is a simple gesture of complacency, something he has to do, beyond his will. The gesticulation with the palms down, parallel for a short period, conveys a message of calm, reduced enthusiasm. It doesn’t mean that Trump is not grateful to doctors but I think he is more grateful for the way he manages the moment than for the doctors' effort. The president speaks in the first 15 seconds, whose image must not be overshadowed by anyone's achievements.

The president is replaced by the man who finally gives himself a moment of peace. There is no longer a war between judgment and emotion in his mind, the joined hands showing that the two major instances of the mind are in a phase of reconciliation. Cognition and emotion intertwine and team up when the person is in a state of inner balance. But the intertwining can also be a form in which the two ally to face an external challenge. Given the context and Trump's personality, I'm leaning toward the latter. This means that Trump has found the resource to deal with this unique situation: Himself, with everything that defines him cognitively and emotionally. The thumbs, the psycho-anatomical seat of desire, pleasure and motivation are hidden most of the time behind the barricade built by joining the other fingers, which betrays fatigue, lack of motivation. The coalition between the two spheres, cognitive and emotional, was dictated by the most primary human need: that of survival. This need shows us that we have Trump as a man in front of us. A relatively balanced man in which the rebellious child was replaced by a quiet one and the stubborn adult by a cautious one.

At one point, when Trump says: “This is America! This is the United States!” (min. 2.36), the thumbs leave the hiding place and stand out. A simple gesture, in gestural linearity and I can only draw one conclusion: "This man loves America!". When he is in an uncomfortable state, he unconsciously comes to life only when he talks about America.

The absence of the tie is a sign of dissociation of contexts, detachment from the formal framework. The shirt unbuttoned around his neck conveys that Trump trusts himself, his resources, his ability to get over this moment, his neck and chest (discreetly exposed) being the psycho-anatomical seat of self-confidence. If a person is self-confident in the most vulnerable moments of his/her life, he/she is either an extremely strong, balanced person, who knows how to mobilize his/her resources, or an unconscious person who underestimates the danger he/she is in.

Today I want to keep in mind the image of this man. I hope that when he returns to the role of president, the man of today will not hide again behind the rebellious child who fights with the arrogant and stubborn adult. I hope!
